Create a Shopify Store : Step-By-Step Tutorial 2019

If you are thinking to start an eCommerce business and sell your products or services, you are in the best time to enter this industry.

However not everyone knows programming. Even though WordPress and WooCommerce looks complicated for many and not everyone will have investment to hire developer.

So, how a non-technical person with less budget can launch online store.

Here's the solution. Shopify.

Shopify is the most popular, friendly, cost effective and time saving eCommerce website builder. It comes up with lots of features and additional apps using which you can start your eCommerce site in few hours.

If you technically good, i suggest you to go with woocommerce.

Also you can easily integrate shopify with many dropshipping and print-on-demand services.

Well, let's start to build your first Shopify store.

#1 Creating Your [ Shopify Account ]


Shopify provides an 14 days trail. Using what you can create and configure your store before going live. Click on "Start free trail" button.


Fill signup form and hit "Create Your Store" button. In this form you can mention your store name. You can change it later.

Note: You will get an confirmation mail from Shopify to verify your account. Once you confirm, your account will be fully ready.


After this initial screen, you’ll be asked for few more details, including your name, address, country and a contact number.


After you click "Next" button, Shopify will ask you handful of additional details about your store or business. Choose one and hit "Next."


Once you complete the Sign Up process you will be redirected to Shopify Admin Dashboard.

#2 Setting up your [ Shopify Store ]

Select your domain name as per your store name.

I recommend to purchase a .COM if you are going to sell your products around the world.

Shopify sells .com domains for $14 per year. This is slightly higher than average. Most domain registrars will sell an available domain for $10 per year. If you’re creating your store from scratch and haven’t purchased your domain yet, I won't worry about trying to save $4 per year. Purchasing your domain directly from Shopify will save you the several extra steps you’d have to take to point your domain from your registrar to Shopify.

Log into Shopify and visit the Shopify Theme Store at Choose a theme which is relevant to your store and that niche product which you are going to sell. You can also find Shopify themes from Template Monster.

Once you install the theme check the functionality such as whether the theme is responsive and mobile ready or not.

To see the theme in action, click View Demo. You’ll see this below the green "Preview Theme in your Store" button.

Once you’ve found a theme, you like, click the green button.

Shopify will ask you to confirm that you want to install the selected theme.

Click Publish as my Shop’s Theme. In future if you don't like the theme, you can always change it.

Once your Shop is ready click "Customize Theme." There you can customize your theme color and font choices, add logo, create carousel in homepage, add related item functionality to product pages, choose how many items should appear on each line of the collection pages and many.

#3 Add Your Products To The Shopify Store


Navigating the bar on the left select "Products." You will then see a blue "Add a product" button in the top right corner of the page. Add your product. Include Images, your product description, pricing, keywords.

Once everything is filled out always remember to click the "Save Product" button in the top and bottom right corners.

Also setup collections (group of products), manual and automatic collections.

#4 Add [ Payment Gateway ] To Shopify

Add payment gateway to your store. You can choose Shopify Payments, PayPal and many other payment gateways. If you sell internationally, I recommend PayPal, as this is most popular payment method accepted in many countries.

#5 Add Other details

Later add some General details. Make sure to use the Google Analytics feature. This can prove to be an invaluable source for tracking your store visitors.

Setting [ Taxes ] In Your Shopify Store

a. Go to the Products page of your admin.
b. Click on the name of a given product.
c. Scroll down to the section called "Inventory & variants."
d. Click on the edit link next to your Product Variant to open a dialog window.
e. Make sure the check boxes next to Charge taxes and Requires shipping are checked if you need to include these with your products.
f. Some stores won’t need to charge taxes or shipping on products like digital goods. On the other hand, a T-shirt store will likely need to charge both.
g. If you are planning to ship your product to customers, make sure to enter the product’s weight in the appropriate field.

How To Set [ Shipping ] Settings in Shopify

a. From your store admin, go to the Settings -> Shipping page.
b. In the "Shipping rates" section, see if you have set a weight-based shipping rate and adjust it according to your product’s specifications.

Now test your site and functionality.

How To Market Your Shop?

Setting up your store is not the last step. The most important is marketing. Every business need to do marketing to grow and succeed. Setup Facebook page, Instagram, twitter pages. Advertise in Google and social media. Call for affiliate marketing and influencers. Setup a blog and write about your store and products that you sell.
